Leadership: One Day at a Time

What do you, Bill Gates, and Elon Musk all have in common? – You all have 24 hours to live today.

What are you going to do with YOUR time today?

Bill Gates began using his 24-hours each day to build something new in his garage. He used his time to work with other really smart people to develop the company we now know as Microsoft. In the 1980’s he partnered up with IBM to develop the software for personal computers. Today, he uses his time giving away billions of dollars to help others in need.

Elon Musk began reading books, lots of books, when he was young. In the 1990’s, Musk used his time to start a company that figured out a better way to store and electronically send data known as Zip2. In 2000, he used his time to start PayPal. In 2004, he used his time to invest in Tesla. Today, he uses his time launching rockets and digging, literally digging, in his own parking lot, to create an underground tube for transporting cars across Los Angeles.

So what are you doing with your time today?

I’m not suggesting that you spend 18 hours working today, but what if you did just one more thing today than you did yesterday to improve yourself? Read one book. Exercise. Watch a YouTube video on leadership. Meet with a mentor. Read a leadership blog.

If you did just one more thing today than you did yesterday, by the end of the week you would have made yourself better at least seven times. Do one more thing a day for a month and you make yourself better at least thirty times. Do just one thing a day for a year, and you’ve made yourself better 365 times.

How would you feel if you could look back over the past year and know that you improved your life 365 different times?

Bill Gates and Elon Musk did not build billion dollar companies in a day, but they did build them a day at a time; 24-hours at a time. They built them by taking action each day.
